Adel is a Manager in Gridworks’ Business Development and Investment team, where he leads project development and investment activities for transmission and distributed energy projects across Africa. He manages key development workstreams, coordinating multidisciplinary teams through all stages of project preparation and financing, and represents Gridworks at international industry forums. Before joining Gridworks, Adel was a Director at Cygnum Capital, where he led the origination and structuring of climate finance investments for the Africa Go Green Fund. Earlier in his career, he advised developers, regulators, and utilities on project development and financing, and held roles at the UK Green Investment Bank and Bloomberg New Energy Finance. Adel holds a BE in Mechanical Engineering from the American University of Beirut and an MSc in Sustainable Development (Energy and Finance track) from HEC Paris.

Alice is Development Impact Advisor at Gridworks. She provides support to the team in defining, enhancing and tracking the economic, social and environmental impacts of Gridworks’ investments.  She has worked in international development and impact investment for more than 30 years and currently works with several funds and companies focused on driving capital to achieve the SDGs, especially in Africa. Alice has an MA in Economics from Cambridge University and is a Chartered Accountant.  

Amol is a Director in the Business Development team at Gridworks. He has extensive experience in infrastructure investments and asset management in South Asia and Africa. He has previously worked at organisations such as Blackrock, J.P.Morgan, the CDC Group, the Blackstone platform Zarou and the Lion’s Head Group across New York, Mumbai and London. His notable achievements include leading the set-up of one of India’s largest wind power platforms, Leap Green Energy, for J.P.Morgan and that of the South Asia renewables platform, Ayana, for the CDC Group. Amol holds a Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering from V.J.T.I (Mumbai), a Master’s in Engineering Management from Dartmouth College and an MBA with Distinction from Oxford University.

Anthony is a Finance Associate at Gridworks. He has a wealth of experience working across multiple industries including construction, television, and marketing. Most recently, Anthony worked for the marketing agency Digital Natives as a Finance Manager, where he introduced models to aid resource planning and monitor financial KPIs. Anthony holds a BA in Accounting & Finance from Middlesex University.

Bruno is the Project Director for the 400kV Chimuara–Nacala transmission project in Mozambique. In this role, he has acted as the primary interface with the utility, recruited the local team, established the local project office, and continues to guide the team across key Technical, Environmental & Social, Legal, and Financial workstreams. He previously served as Project Coordinator for the 550 km Temane Transmission Project, a major national 400kV infrastructure initiative financed by international donors and investors, which was successfully energised in 2024. An electrical engineer by training, Bruno brings more than 22 years of experience in the railway and energy sectors across Portugal, Spain, Ireland, and Mozambique. He has spent the past 16 years leading complex infrastructure projects in Mozambique, contributing to the country’s long-term energy and development goals.

Caroline is Business Development Executive at Gridworks, where she supports the origination, structuring and execution of investments across transmission, distribution and distributed energy projects. She plays a key role in financial structuring, fundraising, modelling and project management — helping to transform complex infrastructure opportunities into deliverable projects that expand reliable, affordable and sustainable power networks across Africa. Caroline joined the business in 2022, bringing prior experience from Crédit Agricole CIB, where she worked in the infrastructure lending and advisory team. Caroline holds a Master’s in Applied Economics and Financial Engineering from Paris Dauphine University.

Daire is an ESG Associate at Gridworks. She supports environmental, social and governance management of our pprtfolio companies. Daire studied in Ireland where she obtained a BSc in Marketing and a Master’s in Education from Trinity College Dublin. Before joining Gridworks she worked as an Economics and Business Teacher in Hertfordshire.

David leads Gridworks’ development of Moyi Power, a greenfield utility in the Democratic Republic of Congo, that will provide electricity to over a million people in three off grid cities in north DRC. He has extensive experience in the development and financing of electricity infrastructure projects in Africa — particularly Francophone Africa — as well as in Europe, Eastern Europe, and India. Before joining Gridworks, he was a founding partner in the African Renewable Power Fund; served as Regional Director for eleQtra/InfraCo Africa; and spent over 20 years with AES Corp — including a role as Head of Project Finance for AES Sonel, Cameroon’s national utility. David holds an MBA from London Business School and a Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Western Australia.

Eric is the Country Director at Gridworks, based in Kampala, Uganda. He joined Gridworks in January 2022 and supports the development and execution of investments in the region. Prior to this role, Eric was the Country Director of the UK’s Department for International Trade, Uganda where he supported UK companies deliver large infrastructure projects. Eric holds an MBA from the University of South Wales, PGDip in Project Finance (Middlesex University), PGDip in Management and International Trade and a Bachelor’s in Engineering.

James is a portfolio company secretary and corporate governance adviser, with a career of over 35 years. He provides part-time company secretarial support and corporate governance advice to the Gridworks Board and Audit and Risk Committee. In addition to Gridworks, James also provides part-time company secretarial support to MedAccess. During his career James has been a Company Secretary for both listed and large private companies. He is also a former General Counsel and lawyer, with experience in corporate and finance law at pedigree law firms and international businesses.  James has valuable experience in good and effective governance for high-value companies, working with multicultural teams and high-powered boards. James is a Chartered Company Secretary and Fellow of the Corporate Governance Institute.

Joe has been Technical Director at Gridworks since 2019. He leads the engineering team integrated with the business development and project delivery functions and plays the leading role in shaping Gridworks’ technical policies and standards. Joe is a member of the Gridworks EHSS Committee and chairs the AEG and SPS EHSS committees. His work covers the development and delivery of transmission, distribution and off-grid investments, ensuring strong engineering, operational and EHSS frameworks across the portfolio. Prior to joining Gridworks, Joe held senior utility and engineering roles in Europe, Africa and the Americas, including with ESB International, Mainstream Renewable Power and Georgian State Electrosystem. He brings over 40 years’ experience in HV/MV system design, utility operations and major project delivery.

Loic is a Business Development Director at Gridworks. He joined Gridworks in 2020 and supports the development and execution of investments. Prior to this role, Loic was at GE Energy Financial Services, structuring and executing financial solutions for power and renewables projects in Europe, Africa and Latin America. Prior to this he worked at Albioma, a Paris-listed IPP, where he focused on Project Finance and M&A transactions. Loic holds a MSc in Management from EMLYON Business School.

Louiza is an ESG Specialist with over 15 years of experience working in Africa and Asia. She was the first Business Integrity Manager for Unilever East Africa, where her responsibilities covered the multinational’s tea plantations in Kenya and their manufacturing and distribution sites in East Africa. In the last five years Louiza has been with IBIS E&S Consulting where she has principally worked with financial institutions including British International Investment, IFC, EIB, PROPARCO, Swedfund and DI Frontier. She has also worked in the public sector with the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights.

Mark holds an advisory role with Gridworks, supporting strategic planning and implementation across its investment portfolio. He has over 25 years of experience in sustainability and governance across the energy, infrastructure, and financial services sectors in global markets. As former Chair of the World Bank Inspection Panel, he led investigations into infrastructure and climate resilience projects worldwide. He currently serves as a Non-Executive Director on the board of Lightrock’s energy access fund. His prior experience includes senior roles at Actis, British International Investment, Arthur D. Little, and Shell. He holds an MSc in Environmental Pollution Control from the University of Leeds and a BEng in Manufacturing Engineering from the University of Nottingham.

Mark is Chief Financial Officer and is responsible for all financial matters at Gridworks. He is a chartered accountant with over 20 years’ experience, most recently as CFO for a private investment firm focusing upon Logistics Real Estate and venture capital investments. Prior experience includes roles at KPMG, BNY Mellon and Barclays Capital. Mark has an MEng degree in Civil Engineering from Nottingham University.

Millie is the Team Assistant at Gridworks, providing comprehensive support across the organisation. Her role includes personal assistant duties, office management, HR coordination, complex travel arrangements and visa processing, travel security, IT support, training logistics and events. Before joining Gridworks, Millie held business support roles in the private real estate sector and at OVO Energy. Millie holds a BA in Dance Performance from Falmouth University and brings a dynamic, detail-oriented approach to her work, helping ensure the team operates smoothly and efficiently.

Phoebe Sullivan is Head of Partnerships at Gridworks, driving strategic relationships that support the company’s growth and impact. Prior to joining Gridworks, she spent nine years with USAID’s Power Africa initiative, first overseeing development partnerships and then managing the West Africa portfolio, delivering technical assistance and transaction advisory services to public and private sector stakeholders in over 20 countries.

Raman is the Finance Manager at Gridworks, directly supporting the CFO, Mark Richards, with all financial and accounting matters. She previously worked at BNY Mellon for over 10 years where she held various finance roles within both the Investment Management and Asset Servicing divisions. Her most recent role involved working as a Finance Business Partner focusing on financial planning, analysis and strategic initiatives within Europe, Middle East and Africa regions. Raman holds a BSc in Mathematics from City, University of London.

Rhyddid is Gridworks’ Head of Communications and has worked in international development and impact investment for over 15 years. A former Communications Manager for CDC Group, he previously worked for UK Government ministers at the Department for International Development and Department for Trade and Industry, and for a senior Member of Parliament. Rhyddid has a degree in Economics and Politics from the University of Bristol.

Richard is Senior Legal Counsel at Gridworks having joined the business when it was founded in 2019. He is responsible for the legal aspects of all Gridworks’ investment and portfolio activities and takes a leading role in the development and execution of investments. Richard has particular experience in M&A, PE and Project Finance. Richard further supports on business development activities, particularly in South Africa. Prior to joining Gridworks Richard was a Private Equity Lawyer in the London office of Clifford Chance LLP, including secondments at British International Investment and The Carlyle Group. Richard qualified as a Solicitor in England & Wales in 2014.

Sabri joined Gridworks in 2019 and has worked across our projects. His key focus is on Moyi Power in DRC. He has successfully led the demand forecasts/stimulation, CAPEX design optimisation and E&S site mission, and has secured funding interest. Sabri has a master’s in general engineering and brings experience from Meridiam, SUEZ, RES and ARTELIA.

Shaun is a Business Development Director at Gridworks, where he leads Gridworks’ strategy in electricity distribution and distributed renewables. He previously worked at CDC/BII where he was a key member of the team that established Gridworks and built its original pipeline, and at PwC advising principally infrastructure business across Africa. Shaun holds an MBA from MIT Sloan and an MEng in Chemical Engineering from Imperial College, London.

William is Gridworks’ Associate Technical Director. He leads the engineering activities for all stages of the transmission and distribution project lifecycle for Gridworks’ portfolio. He provides engineering advice to the investment team and technical engagement with utilities, government agencies and ministries. William is a Chartered Engineer with over 27 years’ international experience in project development, design, construction operation and maintenance for complex networks infrastructure and renewable projects. Prior to Gridworks, William held senior management roles, including Head of Transmission and Distribution Delivery, Business Development and Projects Director at Electricity Supply Board (ESB), the Irish national energy utility. William Holds a B.Eng(Hons) and Ph.D from the University of Aberdeen and University College Cork, respectively.

Yassine is an Associate at Gridworks. He works on developing our transmission and distribution projects. Before joining Gridworks, Yassine worked in the Project Finance department at Nareva, a leading energy and water developer in Morocco. Over his three years there, he contributed to the financing and development of several energy generation and water infrastructure projects in the region. Prior to Nareva, he was a strategy consultant at OCP, focusing on energy and industrial development initiatives. Yassine holds an engineering degree from EMINES, the school of Industrial Management at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University.

Zakiya is the EA and Team Assistant directly supporting our CEO, Simon Hodson. Zakiya brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in business support from the Tech industry and Higher Education. Prior to joining Gridworks, Zakiya worked at Meta as an Executive Administrative Partner. Zakiya has a BA in International Relations from the University of Birmingham.
